Jean Guichet

Jean Guichet ( born August 10, 1927 in Marseille ) is a French former racing driver and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964.

Jean Guichet grew up in southern France. His father was a prominent doctor in Marseille and the young Guichet founded in the 1950s, a supplier to the shipping industry. In 1956 he started with a Ferrari 500 Mondial at a hillclimb in Serrières -Annonay first time as a race car driver. Throughout his career, he went almost exclusively race cars of the Italian brand. In the 1960s, he was a factory driver of the Ferrari in the World Sportscar Championship.

His biggest success in 1964 Guichet in the 24- hour race at Le Mans, which he won on a Ferrari 275P together with Nino Vaccarella. Guichet was his age at the start with all major sports car racing.

In the 1000 - km race at the Nürburgring, he finished in 1963 with Pierre Noblet and 1964 and 1965 with Mike Parkes as partners in each place. 1965 drove Parkes / Guichet in the Ferrari 275P2 44 rounds in 6:53:50,2 hours and came 44.8 seconds behind the winners John Surtees / Lodovico Ferrari 330P2 Scarfiotti stronger in the finish.

In 1970, he should go with the Ferrari 512S again in Le Mans, but a serious accident put a stop to test this project. The then 43 -year-olds were the prototypes to fast and he ended his career. In 1975 he returned for a race and drove in Le Mans a 3-liter BMW. Guichet, who is a close friend of the Belgian Pierre Noblet ( Guichet as a multiple Le Mans starters), the Ferrari brand is still closely connected.
