Jean Guillaume

Jean Guillaume ( born October 28, 1918 in Fosses- la -Ville, † February 9, 2001 in Namur ) was a Belgian Jesuit priest, linguist, literary scholar, Nerval specialist and author in Walloon.

Life and work

Father Guillaume entered the Jesuit novitiate in 1937 in Arlon one (1967 closed) and studied Classical and Romance Philology and Theology in Namur, Liege and Leuven. In 1951 he was ordained a priest. In 1954 he received his doctorate from the Catholic University of Leuven with Essay on valeur exégétique you substantif dans les " Entrevisions " et " La chanson d' Ève " de [ Charles ] Van Lerberghe [ 1861-1907 ] (Brussels 1956). From 1955 he was professor of French literature at the Facultés universitaires Notre- Dame de la Paix in Namur.

Because of the lack of a critical edition of the works of Gérard de Nerval, he founded in 1978 with Claude Pichois in Namur Gérard de Nerval and the research center was from 1984 to 1993 with the same in 3 volumes of the Collected Works Nerval in the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade out. He also wrote poetry in Walloon and was editor Walloon authors.
