Jean I de Montfort

Johann I von Montfort ( † before April 1249 in Cyprus ) was a Count of Montfort l'Amaury. He was a son of Count Amalric VII of Montfort and his wife Beatrice of Viennois.

John succeeded his father as Earl died in 1241. He took in 1248 at the Sixth Crusade of King Louis IX. from France to Egypt in part. But He died during the winter of the army in Cyprus in the spring of 1249, respectively. His remains were transferred to the home and buried in the monastery Hautes- Bruyeres.

Johann was since March 1248 married to Joan of Châteaudun, Lady of Château- du- Loir, a daughter of the Viscount Gottfried VI. Châteaudun. The couple had one daughter:

  • Beatrix ( † 1311 ); ∞ 1260 Count Robert IV of Dreux

His widow later married John of Acre († 1296 ), a son of John of Brienne, king of Jerusalem.
