Jean-Jacques Desvaux de Saint-Maurice

Jean -Jacques Desvaux de Saint-Maurice ( born June 26, 1775 in Paris, † June 18, 1815 near Waterloo, Belgium) was a French General of Artillery.

Life

Desvaux is a son of Jacques- Philippe Des Vaux, Seigneur de Saint -Maurice, etc. etc. and Angélique Melin. Between 1786 and 1790 he attended the Collège de Juilly and was then a cadet at the École d' artillery de Châlons. Right after that he was transferred in 1792 to General Francois -Christophe Kellermann. Under his command he fought at Aiguebelle and participated in the siege of Lyon (September / October 1793).

After subsequent promotions Desvaux fought with the rank of Captain in Boulou ( 14-15. October 1793 ). He took 1796/97 part in the Italian campaign and was brave in Novi (August 15, 1799), at the Trebbia ( 17 / June 9, 1799 ) and on the Mincio (25 December 1800).

On January 25, 1804, he was appointed as aide- de-camp to General Auguste Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont and the following year was promoted to General.

Under Marshal Louis Alexandre Berthier Desvaux fought at Raab (14 June 1809) and Wagram ( 5 / July 6, 1809 ).

He took part in Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812 and was able to at Borodino (7 September 1812) and on the Berezina ( 26-28. November 1812 ) again distinguished by bravery.

After the battle of Paris (30 March 1814) and the abdication of Napoleon (→ Treaty of Fontainebleau ) is Desvaux behaved, as an admirer of the Emperor, the House of Bourbon in a neutral way. When Napoleon had left Elba again and the " rule of the Hundred Days, " there began to Desvaux joined him immediately again. In the battle of Waterloo Desvaux commanded the artillery and was killed at Mont Saint -Jean during an attack.

Desvaux was married Céleste -Charlotte Souverbie and had two children with her: Charles -Antoine- Jacques (1812-1865) and Angélique - Célestine -Augusta.
