Jean-Jacques Renouard de Villayer

Jean -Jacques Renouard, seigneur de Villayer (* June 24, 1607 in Nantes, † March 5, 1691 in Paris) was a member of the French Conseil d' État to which the absolutist reigning King Louis XIV had delegated certain legal powers.

As a tenant of the Paris city post Renouard de Villayer was set up in 1653 at various locations in Paris mailboxes into which could be inserted with a unit of 1 postage prepaid such letters, which were then delivered on the same day in the city. The publications for this purpose receipt slip ( billet de port payé ) that had to be stapled to the franking of the letters are considered as early forerunners of the stamp. No copy has survived to this day. The so-called Petite Poste was a commercial failure, but was later in other European cities (such as the London Penny Post from 1680) successfully imitated.

1659 became a member of the Académie française Renouard de Villayer as successor Abel Servia.

The house coat of arms of Renouard de Villayer 1944 imaged by the French Post Office on the occasion of the anniversary of the postage stamp on a special stamp.
