Jean-Jacques Reubell

Jean -Jacques Reubell ( Rewbell ) ( born August 12, 1777 Colmar, † January 24, 1847 ) was a French general during the Napoleonic Wars.

Life

Jean -Jacques Reubell was born in Upper Alsace Colmar ( Haut-Rhin province ) on 12 August 1777. He entered the French military and was appointed on 23 April 1792 a sub-lieutenant and quickly worked his way up. In 1796 he was already chief of battalion, in 1807, he joined the service of the Kingdom of Westphalia under Napoleon Bonaparte's brother Jérôme and on 8 December 1807, he was brigadier general, a year later, a major general and chief of the General Staff.

In his time at the Westphalian army fell on August 1, 1809 Battle of Ölper, which is the Westphalian troops under his command failed to defeat the black band under Friedrich Wilhelm of Brunswick and prevent their further train through northern Germany. Then he was removed from his post and Napoleon fled to America, where he remained until 1817. In his return, he became commander of the Haute -Saône. On July 21, 1836, he took his leave.

Reubell was a knight and officer of the Legion of Honor and Knight of the Ordre royal et militaire de Saint- Louis.
