Jean Joseph Guieu

Jean Joseph Guieu, rarely Jean Guyeux ( born September 30, 1758 in Champcella, † October 5, 1817 in Châteauroux ) was a French general of division artillery.

Life

At sixteen Guieu came in 1774 as a cadet to the royal army. Soon he could be distinguished by courage and bravery and was promoted several times. In 1791 he served with the rank of Captain in the Alps army and on October 4, 1793, he was promoted to Colonel. As such, he was for two years a member of the staff of General Charles Pierre François Augereau and fought in the Pyrenees.

Under the leadership of Jacques François Dugommier Guieu fought bravely at Boulou (29 April / May 1, 1794 ) and in the Sierra Negra ( 17./20. November 1794 ). When the war between France and Spain had ended in peace from Basel (22 July 1795), Guieu could return to France.

When Napoleon 's 1796 campaign in Italy was planning to Guieu reported as a volunteer. He could go to General Jean Sérurier and fought bravely at Mondovi ( 20./22. April 1796 ), Lonato ( 3 / August 4, 1796 ), Rovereto (4 September 1796) and Arcole ( 15./17. November 1796 ). During the siege of Mantua et al along with Pierre François Sauret under the leadership of Napoleon.

After the Battle of Novi (25 August 1799) Guieu returned to France. In the following years Guieu took only administrative tasks in the military administration. In 1803 he was officially retires and he settled in Châteauroux. He died five days after his 59th birthday on October 5, 1817 and there was also his last resting place.
