Jean Jouzel

Jean Jouzel ( born March 5, 1947 in Janzé ( Ille -et -Vilaine ) ) is a French glaciologist and climatologist.

During his studies Jouzel earned a degree as a teacher of chemistry (1967 ) and a Maîtrise in physical chemistry (1968). In 1974 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the properties of deuterium and tritium at the University of Paris-Sud in Orsay.

In 2002, he was honored for his achievements in the study of ice cores with the gold medal of the Centre national de la recherche scientifique.

Jouzel passes in his capacity as research director of the French Atomic Energy Authority, the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace, are examined in the global change processes.

Since 1994, Jouzel member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and as an expert in the Working Group I " The Physical Science Basis " took part in the Second and Third Assessment Report. In 2007 he was again involved as Vice - Chair in a position of responsibility in the preparation of the Fourth Assessment Report. It is thus a member of the IPCC together with Al Gore winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
