Jean-Louis Debilly

Jean -Louis Debilly ( born July 30, 1763 in Dreux, † October 14, 1806 during the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt ) was a French general of artillery and infantry.

Life

Debilly comes from a family whose roots can be traced back to the 13th century.

At the beginning of the revolution was Debilly mathematics teacher in Paris. Inspired by these ideals, he joined the Guard to national. After he had defended the coast at Brest for a few weeks, he joined the army.

There he made very quickly after a short time career and was already in the rank of General Chief of Staff of Jean -Baptiste Kléber. Later, the Board appointed him to General Jean -Baptiste Jourdan.

Other promotions followed, when Debilly before Stockach (25 March 1799) and Zurich ( 4 / June 7, 1799 ), in turn, could be distinguished by bravery.

In 1806 he led his own command of Marshal Louis -Nicolas Davout, and fought among others in the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt (14 June 1804). He was also mortally wounded and found his final resting place.

Debilly was married twice: first with Jeanne Chénnard and then with Marie -Barbe hem. He had two sons: Charles -Louis (1790 - after 1848 ) and Édouard -Louis ( 1802-1874 ).
