Jean-Marie Dufour

Jean -Marie Dufour ( b. 1949 ) is a Canadian economist and university professor. In the center of his scientific work focuses on the economics and their description with statistical and econometric methods.

Career, teaching and research

After Dufour in 1971 had completed his studies of mathematics at McGill University with a Bachelor of Science, two years later he graduated from the University of Montreal Master of Science. Until 1974, he also studied economics at Concordia University. Here, as four years later at the University of Chicago, he laid the Master of Arts before he in 1979 as a Ph.D. Chicago left.

Parallel to his studies Dufour had worked from 1973 at the Collège Édouard - Montpetit, a Collège d' enseignement général et professionnel,. In 1978 he moved as a lecturer in economics back to the University of Montreal, a year later, he took over at the University of the post of Assistant Professor. In 1983 he was promoted to associate professor, before being appointed in 1988 to full professor. During his tenure in Montreal, he took several times took visiting professorships and teaching at the University of Lausanne, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Tunis or the University of Toulouse. From 2001, he held the Canada Research Chair at the University of Montreal. In 2007 he was appointed professor at McGill University, where he took over the William Dow Chair.

Dufour was involved in addition to his scientific work in research and teaching in various research institutions. So he headed between 1998 and 2001 the fortunes of the Société canadienne de science économique and between 2002 and 2003 the Canadian Economics Association respectively as president. For his work, he has also been awarded several times. In addition to the Prix Marcel- Dagenais, he received three times, he was honored in 2008 with the rank of officers with the Order of Canada.

The scientific work of Dufour is dominated by the mathematical writing of macroeconomics, public finance, economic growth and development. His econometric approaches cover among other time-series analysis, business valuation models and fundamental questions about econometrics.
