Jean-Marie Zemb

Jean -Marie Zemb (* July 14, 1928 in Erstein, † February 15, 2007 in Lorient) was a French philosopher and German studies. His specialty was the German linguistics. His most famous work is his Comparative Grammar of French - German.

Life

Zemb grew up in German-occupied temporarily Strasbourg. As Alsatian Malgré - nous he was 16 years old Flakhelfer the Wehrmacht. From 1968 to 1986 he occupied successively chairs for Germanistic linguistics at the University of Paris VIII, Paris III and Paris X. 1986 established the Collège de France, a chair for him, " Grammaire et pensée allemandes ". He was a member of the "Commission générale de terminology et de Neology ". 1999 elected him to the Académie des sciences morales et politiques as a member.

In the German public, he worked as a teaching Responsible for the television series Les Gammas! Les Gammas! . He thought hard and exceptionally critical of the German spelling reform of 1996, about which he wrote numerous articles for German newspapers.
