Jean-Noël Augert

Jean -Noël Augert ( born August 17, 1949 in Saint -Jean -de- Maurienne ) is a French former alpine skier. He is married to the former alpine skier Françoise Macchi and is the uncle of Jean -Pierre Vidal and the nephew of Jean -Pierre Augert.

Biography

Augert grew up in the winter sports resort of La Toussuire and learned to ski there. He played his first international race in December 1966 in Val d'Isere. In 1967 he took part in the then newly launched skiing. The breakthrough of the world leaders he succeeded in the 1968/69 season, when he won the slalom World Cup. With three wins this season he reached the overall World Cup second place, although he could never win a World Cup point in the downhill.

His greatest achievement was winning the gold medal in the slalom at the World Ski Championships 1970 in Val Gardena. In the 1970/71 season and he could in turn decide the slalom World Cup itself.

After winning both the slalom in Wengen and Kitzbühel in 1972, he was considered a favorite for the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. During the fifth place in the giant slalom quite in line with expectations, the fifth place in the slalom but proved to be a bitter disappointment. After all, he decided at the end of this season for a third time the slalom World Cup itself.

End of the 1972/73 season is Augert quarreled with the French Ski Federation, went to 1975 pro race and then stepped back. In the same year he married Françoise Macchi. Augert is now the owner of a sporting goods store and a restaurant in the winter sports resort Le Corbier, where he lives during the winter months. His main residence is in Evian- les- Bains.
