Jean-Roch Coignet

Jean -Roch Coignet ( born August 16, 1776 in Druyes -les -Belles -Fontaines, Yonne, † December 10, 1865 in Auxerre) in 1799, at age 23, soldier, and remained so until 1815, he took part in all the Napoleonic campaigns as. member of the Imperial Guard in part, to a total of thirty-four battles in sixteen campaigns. In 1813 he was promoted to captain on the General Staff ( Capitaine de l' État - Major Général ). In 1848, he wrote down his memories that reflect the war events of the Napoleonic wars from the perspective of the common soldier.

The detained in his records events provided the material for the seven -part television series Jean -Roch Coignet (fr ) of the ORTF.
