Jean Roger-Ducasse

Jean Jules Aimable Roger- Ducasse ( born April 18, 1873 in Bordeaux. † July 19, 1954 in Le Taillan -Médoc, Gironde Dept ) was a French composer.

Life

Roger- Ducasse studied from 1892 at the Conservatoire de Paris. His teachers were there. Among others, Charles de Bériot, André Gedalge and Gabriel Fauré 1898 rang with his Petite Suite for the first time one of his compositions in public. In 1902 he was awarded the " Premier Second Prix de Rome ". From 1909 he was inspector for singing lessons at schools in Paris and was appointed Inspector General of the musical life later. In 1935, he received a professorship at the Paris Conservatoire in succession by Paul Dukas.

Work

The compositions of Roger- Ducasse reveal the influence of Fauré and Debussy, but also rely on the polyphonic tradition of Johann Sebastian Bach. In his not very extensive catalog of works contains several orchestral works, works for chorus and orchestra, two operas ( Orphée, Cantegril ), two string quartets, a piano quartet and piano compositions.
