Jeanne M. Holm

Jeanne M. Holm ( born June 23, 1921 in Portland, Oregon, † February 15, 2010 in Annapolis, Maryland) was an American Generalmajorin the United States Air Force.

Biography

Holm came in 1942, first in the United States Army, and moved in 1948 to the United States Air Force ( USAF). In 1952 she was the first woman graduate of the Air Command and Staff College ( ACSC ) at Maxwell - Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery (Alabama ).

Between 1965 and 1973 she was Director of the Women's Division in the Air Force. During this time there was not only for the modernization of the uniforms, but also to a doubling of the number of female members of the Air Force.

On July 16, 1971 her promotion was to Brigadier General. On 1 March 1973 she was promoted Director of the Staff Council at the United States Secretary of the Air Force and, as such, on 1 June 1973 Generalmajorin the USAF. In 1975, she retired from active service.

Generalmajorin Holm was the first woman who reached the rank of brigadier general in the USAF, and the first woman to be promoted throughout the United States Army major general. During her career she was also a strong supporter of women in the Air Force and played a key role in the abolition of the restriction on the number of female members in the Air Force, the expansion of services and use positions for women as well as at the opening of the Reserve Officer Training Corps ( ROTC ) and other air Force schools for women.

After her retirement, her vocation was the special assistant for women of U.S. President Gerald R. Ford Between 1977 and 1981 she was a political adviser to President Jimmy Carter in 1981 and then for some time chairman of the Committee for Women's Affairs of the Veterans Administration, the today's Department of Veterans Affairs of the United States.

In 1982 she published her book " Women in the Military: An Unfinished Revolution", which became a standard work on the subject.

During her military career, she has won several awards and received, among other things, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal and the Legion of Honour of Merit.
