Jędrzej Kitowicz

Jędrzej Kitowicz (* December 1, 1728; † April 3, 1804 ) was a Polish priest and historian.

About the origin Kitowicz ' is not known. He attended school in Warsaw and then worked for several years secretary of the ministry of the Benedictine Abbot Michał Lipski. In 1768 he joined the Confederation of Bar. He served first under Ignacy Skarbek - Malczewski, participated in the battles of Radom and Czestochowa in part, commanded the Confederate cavalry in Poznań and most recently worked in the headquarters of General Józef Zaremba.

In 1771 he began despite the lack of education studies at the Theological Seminary of the Missionaries of the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw. In 1777 he was ordained in Wloclawek, In 1781 he became pastor in Rzeczyca. Here he began to organize historical materials that he had collected since 1743, and from which he created his two historical works: Pamiętniki, czyli Historia polska and Opis obyczajów za panowania Augusta III .. Both were as important sources from the period of Saxon domination Poland used by authors such as Fryderyk Skarbek, Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, Henryk Sienkiewicz Henryk and Rzewuski.
