Jędrzejów

Jędrzejów [ jɛndʒɛjuf ] is a town in Poland, in the Province of the Holy Cross. It is the seat of the urban and rural community and the Powiats Jedrzejowski.

Geography

Jędrzejów located in the south of the Province of Holy Cross and is the eponymous site for the Hochebende Jędrzejów ( Płaskowyż Jedrzejowski ) a part of the lowlands of Nida ( Niecka Nidziańska ).

History

The basis for the village the Brzeźnica called settlement, which was established in the 7th century. Janik 1140 founded the monastery Jędrzejów. Probably in 1153 the name of the place in Jędrzejów was changed. 1271 was the place by Bolesław V the city right under Magdeburg law. 1510 the municipal law of Jędrzejów was confirmed by Sigismund I and the city was given the right a weekly market and three times a year to hold a fair. 1705 raged a serious fire in the city. In the third partition of Poland Jędrzejów came to Austria in 1795. With the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw, the city was the same part and 1815 part of Congress Poland. Two years later, or in 1869 Jędrzejów lost its city charter. In 1885, the connection to the rail network. 1916 was the place again a town. After the First World War, the town was part of the revived Poland. In September 1939, the Wehrmacht invaded and occupied the city. In early 1940, a ghetto was established which existed until September 1942. The occupation ended in 1945 with the invasion of the Red Army and the city was again part of Poland. 1999 Jędrzejów seat of a Powiats.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

In a north-south direction, the road leads Europe 77, at the same time 7 road ( droga Krajowa 7), which leads to about 30 kilometers to the north by Kielce and 65 kilometers of Krakow. From East to West leads the provincial road 78 This leads to the southwest after about 80 kilometers in the Upper Silesian industrial area around Katowice and ends in the east to 30 kilometers in Chmielnik.

The city has a connection to the rail network of PKP. Among other things, the connection from Krakow to Kielce passes through the town.

The nearest international airport is John Paul II Kraków-Balice. This is about 70 kilometers south of Jędrzejów.
