Jef Last

Josephus Carel Franciscus ( Jef ) load ( born 2 May 1898 in The Hague, † February 15, 1972 in Laren ) was a Dutch poet and writer.

Jef load came from a Catholic family; he joined early in the Sociaal Democratic Arbeiders Partij, then moved on to the Revolutionair - Socialistische Arbeiderspartij. With its revolutionary friend André Gide in 1936, he traveled to the Soviet Union; but they returned relatively disillusioned. About his friendship with Gide wrote the work load Mijn vriend André Gide.

As a member of the International Brigades, he took part in the Spanish Civil War, which he lost his Dutch citizenship ( but which was then refunded ).

From 1950 to 1953 he lived in Indonesia, where he worked as a middle school teacher and was a friend of Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta.
