Jeff Agoos

Jeffrey " Jeff" Alan Agoos ( born 2 May 1968 in Geneva ) is a former American football player and current general manager of the New York Red Bulls.

He was born in Switzerland, when his father worked as a diplomat; but he grew up in Texas.

Career

Club and coaching career

His career began Agoos in football team of University of Virginia, where he studied. During his studies, he signed in 1991 a contract with amateur football club Maryland Bays, which at that time played in the American Soccer League.

In 1992 he moved to the Dallas Sidekicks, which played in the Major Indoor Soccer League ( MISL ), a professional indoor football league. With them he was also the last final before the league has been set. The game went 4-2 lost to the San Diego Sockers.

On placing the MISL Agoos moved in 1994 to overseas to the German club SV labor. For Hesse, he played one season in the Regionalliga Süd.

1995 returned to the U.S. and became an assistant coach under Bruce Arena at the University of Virginia. He followed it in 1996 to D.C. United in the newly founded Major League Soccer. With United he won this year's MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup. The following year was D.C. United also won the national championship. The same thing happened in 1998.

In 2000 he moved on loan to West Bromwich Albion. There, however, he could not assert himself and changed in 2001 to the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS. With the Californians he won the 2001 and the 2004 MLS Cup.

In 2005 he moved one last time. His new employers were the MetroStars. This year Agoos was also included in the best eleven of the last decade.

On December 8, 2005, he finished his career. In ten years in Major League Soccer, he came up with a balance of eleven goals in a total of 244 completed games.

For the 2008 season Agoos took over the position of General Manager for the New York Red Bulls. He thus became the successor of Bruce Arena.

National

His first international match completed Agoos against the National Soccer Team of Guatemala on 13 January 1988. Overall, he was 1988-2003 134 times on the field, where he scored four goals.

He also participated in 1994, 1998 and 2002, three times participated in a World Cup finals.

1992 belonged Agoos to the U.S. squad at the FIFA Futsal World Championship in Hong Kong, as it was runner-up by a 1:4 - final defeat against Brazil.
