Jefferson Davis Presidential Library

The Jefferson Davis Presidential Library is a library and a museum in Mississippi for the purpose of the papers, records, artifacts, and other historical documents of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America, preserve, store and make available to the public. Despite the name, it is not an official presidential library, since Davis was never president of the United States of America. However, the library is supported by the state of Mississippi, as demonstrated by a plaque at the entrance.

The library is located at 224 Beach Boulevard in Biloxi, Mississippi on the basis of Davis ' last home seat Beauvoir. The library was officially opened in 1998 by the state of Mississippi and handed over his destiny. The tour includes site next to the library and the home, with many furnishings from the time of Davis, the Confederate Museum and a Confederate cemetery.

On 29 August 2005, the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Beauvoir was a result of Hurricane Katrina badly damaged by wind and water. The library pavilion that were Hayes Hütte, a replica of a military barracks, a museum for Confederate soldiers, the museum shop and the house of the director completely destroyed. The exhibits were photographed, inventoried, packaged and stored. The objects and the household furnishings are preserved. It has earmarked 4.1 million doller for the reconstruction of the house and reported as closing date of the action 13 March 2008. Ultimately, the building was on 3 June 2008, on the 200th birthday of Davis reopened. The library itself was beyond saving, so a completely new building is erected.
