Jeju-do Naval Base

The naval base Gangjeong is a project of the South Korean Navy near the village of Gangjeong in Seogwipo on the island of Jeju-do. The plan is an area with 480,000 square meters of extension with space enough for 20 war and two cruise ships.

The local population tried to prevent this project. On the island there are natural areas around the volcano Halla - san, which are recognized by UNESCO as a protected site. In addition, a special peace to the islanders had been promised because of the massacre of Jeju.
