JÄ“kabs RÄ“dlihs

Jēkabs Redlihs ( born March 29, 1982 in Riga, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian ice hockey player, who was until 2013 when Dinamo Riga in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Jēkabs Redlihs began his playing career at the Riga Juniors, for whom he played in the 1999/2000 season that first time in the East European Hockey League ( EEHL ). After a season followed at HK Liepaja Metalurgs, for which he played again in the EEHL and the Latvian Hockey League. A year later, he moved to North America to New York Apple Core EJHL in the, a U.S. junior league. He was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fourth round at 119th place. In the summer of 2002 he went to Boston University, where he played four years in the North American college league. In spring 2006 he signed his first professional contract with the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League ( AHL ). There he remained for two years before moving to HC Plzeň of the Czech Extraliga against the end of the 2007/08 season. For the Czechs, he was one and a half years on the ice.

Since the 2009/10 season Redlihs plays in his Latvian homeland for Dinamo Riga of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Internationally

For Latvia Redlihs took part in the junior level at the U18 Junior B World Cup 2000 and the U20 Junior C World Cup 2002. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships A- 2008, 2010 and 2011.

Family

Jēkabs Redlihs has two brothers who also play ice hockey: His older brother Krišjānis and Miķelis. Jēkabs Redlihs is friends with Jānis Sprukts playing in the AHL with the Rochester Americans.
