Jem Belcher

Jem Belcher ( born April 15, 1781 Bristol, † 30 July 1811 in London ) was a British boxer of the bare- knuckle era.

1799 boxed the agile technicians against Jack Bartholomew draw, won the rematch in 1800 and was as British Champion (then unofficial world champion ) recognized. Due to an accident at Five games he lost an eye in 1803. In 1805 he was defeated in a title fight Henry Pearce, one of his ex- students.

In 1807 he defeated the talented young boxer Tom Cribb and made incensed by high betting losses in this battle, for a street brawl and was imprisoned a month. He died young and penniless.

In 1992, Belcher induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
