The train station Jena- Göschwitz ( until December 2010 Göschwitz (Saale ) ) is a key railway station in Jena Göschwitz district. Located at 152.21 meters above sea level station is located at kilometer 32.22 and 27.50 of the hall track Weimar- Gera Railway and was opened on 1 July 1876. The former station II class is classified in the categorization of Deutsche Bahn station under category 4.

Infrastructure

The railway tracks were to the train station foundation still quite modest pronounced ( per railway company three tracks and a switch connection). 1879 opened the hall Railway Company the platform today known as track 2, to 1890, the length of the tracks had already doubled. Since then, the railways, the growing demand had accordingly be continuously expanded.

Around 1938 had temporarily seven tracks comprehensive replacement station will be set up to allow the construction of the Saale valley viaduct of the present Federal Highway 4, the branch of the route of the Weimar- Gera railway was located at kilometer 28,25. This provisional was dismantled after the completion of the viaduct.

During the Second World War, the facilities of the station were, in contrast to stations such as Jena Saalbf or Saalfeld (Saale ), not very badly damaged, but you could hardly carry out major repairs in the coming years. Between 1965 and 1973, the tracks were thoroughly refurbished by the German Reichsbahn (DR ) and restored the duality of all adjoining track pieces.

The station building the Weimar- Gera Railway Company was shared by the hall Railroad Company against rent. It was rebuilt in 1959.

The Weimar- Gera railway had in Göschwitz well before the turn of the century steam-powered water station. After 1900, followed by several other utilities ( and Others 1902 16.2 meters comprehensive hub and a small engine shed ). So the Lokeinsatzstelle Göschwitz / Saale arose. After 1914, the large engine shed and ancillary equipment was built ( since 1915 "Station Locksmith Göschwitz " / Lokomotiv reserve). The facilities also included the in 1907 built, older water tower. In the southern part of the station, another water tower in 1934 near the small Saale bridge erected, in contrast to the above, in 1977 during the construction of the new Switchboard and new service building, demolished, still exists today. The coal loading facilities were located until 1957 in the building of locomotive office, this year, the building was completed.

In the years 1994 and 1996 and the Göschwitz station was rebuilt and in the second hall railway electrification provided again with catenary systems; after the work of the so-called "Junior Station Göschwitz " was lifted from the baptism (trainee location). Thus, a small part of the extensive facilities are preserved from decay. Furthermore, the track subways and platform canopies were provided repainted or with covers and new destination displays ( flip-over in blue / white ) set up. In connection with this change, among other things, the crossovers from track 4 to the tracks 3, 2 and 1 of the hall and away web page to the tracks 8 and 9 of the Weimar- Gera railway were. The tracks 1-4 are spanned by catenary.

In 2011, the track was removed in favor of a 5 widening of the island platform.

Systems for the transport connection

In 1886, the private siding Prüssing & Co. KG aA became the Saxon -Thuringian Portland Cement Factory, built.

The Zeiss works received in 1968 as part of new production facilities in Göschwitz own railway siding, this field is the current industrial park Göschwitz. Responsible for shunting were V10b ( LKM 252241, 252325 LKM ). From the siding of the cement plant is a connection path for the arising therefrom concrete slab factory, which was used for the reception of building materials and the shipping of produced there residential precast concrete developed.

In 1969, the tracks were 1-10 rebuilt since the plants were grown to the ever-increasing traffic in any way and the traffic is therefore even back accumulated to other stations.

The area of the disk drive connector has been 1975-1980 greatly expanded and made usable for the newly built heating. It arose out privileges secured signal to / from the train hall, three sidings and two tracks for Ölbunkerung. Another track led to the nacelle. While in the process of establishing machinery and building materials were delivered to the heating plant developed for Hauptanschließer and legal entity of this port rail, the plate work was demoted to Nebenanschließer. In this sense, often had to track, signaling and safety equipment moved and / or converted, which also concerned the interlocking Gn ( Göschwitz North ).

From 1980, the heating plant was expanded to lignite-fired combustion plants due to an oil crisis, the old Ölfeuerungstrakt was used only in urgent cases and virtually shut down. In this context, the web had to carry large quantities of brown coal and the combustion residues from the plant; more than 20 tracks as well as some additional equipment, such as a Auftauhalle or facilities for loading of wagons there were ashes built. There were even created several different unloading facilities for different types of wagon, as no uniform type of wagon was in sufficient quantity. It could therefore be discharged Fad-/Fal-, Ea and the non-tilting e- car. The capacity of the connecting railway amounted to about 6,000 tons of coal a day, six full trains.

For the operation of the railway siding were used initially two V 22 (262310 and 262 311, locomotive Karl Marx Babelsberg 1971). After the expansion, the heating plant received a V 60 from Hennigsdorf ( 17694, built in 1983 ). Since the German Reichsbahn had strengthened to save diesel fuel, the CHP purchased two fire loose locomotives ( 03108 FLC 14893/1986 and 03055 /1984 of Raw Meiningen ). These locomotives were used until the end of the operation of the railway siding in 1991 and acquired in 1992 by 52 of the 8075 IGE Werrabahn Eisenach as spare parts.

Interlockings, signal and control technology

In 1900 the hall rail and Weimar- Gera Railway Company built their own signal boxes in the station area.

In 1977, the new signal box B 1 was opened, in the course of this safety equipment was also with the use of the modified signal and started. The demolition of the "old " guards interlockings Gn (North), Go ( Weimaer - Gera railway, east ) and Gw ( hall track south) was 1977/78. The former Interlocking G was rebuilt in the years 1982-1984 to a service building.

As security technology came to the end of 2011, the interlocking Gs form II DR of the work for signaling and safety equipment Berlin ( WSSB ) are used. Since only one signal box was used, the efficiency was high. Since 27 November 2011, the entire operation via the Electronic Interlocking ( CBI ) by the operations center of Leipzig is remotely controlled.

Station name

The city of Jena in 1923 presented the request for a renaming of the station of " Göschwitz " in " Jena South ", which was refused. At the same time when this hall station ( " Jena Nord " ) was practiced. In 1953 the German Reichsbahn suggested to the mayor Göschwitzer to make a name change to ' Göschwitz / Saale " or" Jena South ". The former variant was preferred, since a re- incorporation of the village in the city of Jena was not in sight. Since 1969 Göschwitz expectations is one of Jena, the name of the station still remained unchanged, so that the city of Jena frequently proposals for a name change to " Jena Göschwitz " submitted. As of December 2010, the German Railway has announced to rename the station in " Jena Göschwitz ".

Importance

The station is located on the so-called mid - Germany connection. The gloss of the station were probably those years was between 1960 and 1990. Among other things, by heating and Carl Zeiss Jena to cope with a very large volume of goods. Moreover, also trains were formed ( for example, were transformations of freight trains from Naumburg (Saale ), White Rock, Saalfeld (Saale ), Weimar, New tavern and Gera performed, it came this fast over 500 cars a day together). In 1971 a container center, the 1987 capacity of 50,000 turned up large containers offered by the year, which were often sent to the Soviet Union, but also worldwide. The local transport of some container loads to surrounding places like Jena, Kahla ( door ) or Stadtroda took over trucks. Moreover, living in the southern parts of the city of Jena, Lobeda and Winzerla, now about 50 percent of the total city population. The rush for the resident plants and facilities was noted in the rest. It was also planned to build a new reception building.

In the early 1970s should be the Jena Scientific and Technical Centre of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA ). But the city should completely rebuilt and a monorail being built (see here), which would not be passed on also Göschwitz station without many changes. This - not vereinzubarenden with reality - but ideas disappeared as quickly as they had come.

In the years since 1957 one of the largest Lokbahnhöfe the Deutsche Reichsbahn and a little later the largest transhipment station between Großheringen and Saalfeld (Saale ) was in Göschwitz with more than 150 employees to be found.

After the peaceful revolution was taken as 1990, the first container center out of service, followed by adjusted the formation of freight trains between 1992 and 1995; the locomotives were delivered to Saalfeld (Saale ). As of 1991, found no connection traffic, for example, to and from the once important work tracks from Zeiss (through the restructuring was a connecting railway, viewed from the new viewpoint out, no longer necessary ) or heating (these connecting railway was taken over by a private user ) instead; the plate plant produced about the same time one of its production. 1997/98, consequently, the supervisors for passenger and freight depot were abolished, which also was true for locomotive office and railway station. Today, the site appears to the viewer neglected.

The freight on the Weimar- Gera railway was also adjusted so that the Göschwitz station is now used in this regard only for short-term parking of trains running on the Hall rail freight trains. According to DB Cargo, the provision of goods tariff point was not worth that MORA C did in 2001 the rest.

Since about 1960 the Göschwitz station came to the role of the transport budget of fast moving trains. The last weekend amplifier (IC) trains stopped with the timetable change on 12 December 2005 in Göschwitz not more, so the station was now finally separated from the long-haul network. As a regional passenger trains, which are used here or end, Monday to Friday, two pairs of trains every hour to / from Weimar and Verstärker-/Spätzüge few have been preserved. However, the extent of this traffic can not be compared to the earlier times.

Inspired by the Transport Minister of the Free State of Thuringia is a debate about whether the Göschwitz station will be expanded to the main train station Jena since 2007. Background for the claim is in principle possible, but not feasible with the existing systems linking long-distance and local services of Hall train and mid - Germany connection that can not be taken over by the train stations Jena-West and Paradise because of their location in the network. The DB has signaled a vested interest, especially as a modernization of the station is planned for the period from 2011 anyway. Positioning the city of Jena is still pending. A request by the FDP and CDU in the City Council was referred in April 2008 in the City Development Committee.

Transport connections

The connection to the public transport within daily traffic through the tram lines 1 /4 and 3 and by the bus line 13 in the night the power station Göschwitz stop of tram line 35 and the number 13 bus is operated.

Between July 2007 and December 2009, an extension of the Jena tram network of Lobeda -West was built over the Göschwitzer station to Burgau. The first section Lobeda West Station Göschwitz was taken on 20 May 2009 by extension of line 3 in forward mode, the remaining distance train station Göschwitz - Burgau was followed on 17 December 2009. On this day there was a substantial change of the line network, so that the station stop Göschwitz has since served by two tram lines. This transfer- made connections to most developed parts of the city by tram Jenas. The connection to the western parts of the city ensures the number 13 bus. Subject of further studies it should be, if at this point, a join point can be set up with regional bus services.

For many years, the public transportation to the train station was inadequate, so the Göschwitz station could not play the role of a transport node. After this deficiency has now been eliminated, the train station in the passenger could play a bigger role again.
