Jenčice

Jenčice ( German Jentschitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic.

Geography

It is situated in 227 m asl one kilometer northeast of the city Trebenice in the Bohemian Central Mountains and belongs to Okres Litoměřice. South of the town on Jenčický creek runs the state road 15 at the village location Čertovka Jenčice borders Trebenice, in the east and to the north lies Čížkovice Košťálov. To the northwest rises the steep slope of the field 481 m high Kostal with the ruins of the castle Košťálov.

History

Already in 1251 can be a Stefan Benešice of evidence together with his brother Pavlik of Sulevice. Probably was meant by Benešice the village Jenešice. What is certain is therefore considered only the documentary mention as Jenešice the year 1318. 1408 acquired the noble family of Wchinitz the place, which then belonged to the destruction of the castle Kostial.

During excavations, a Neolithic settlement was discovered in 1985 at Jenčice. In the village there is an old Speierling, which was declared a natural monument.

The municipality includes the districts Jenčice Čertovka and Košťálov ( Kostial ).
