Jeon (food)

Jeon is a pancake -like dish in Korean cuisine. In Korea Jeon is also called Buchimge ( 부침개 ) and Jijimi ( 지짐이 ), where the latter name comes from the south and from there came to Japan, where the dish is called as (Japaneseチヂミ). Jeon means " baked flat, stretched".

The basic ingredients are water, flour and egg. They are mixed with various ingredients such as seafood and vegetables or kimchi and fried in oil. Jeon is usually eaten as an appetizer or as Anju ( food to alcoholic beverages ). Jeon is also served as an important component for ceremonial menus. Typical versions are Pajeon ( green onion pancake ) and Kimchijeon ( kimchi pancake).
