Jerry Dammers

Jerry Dammers ( May 22nd, 1955 in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, India; actually Jeremy Dammers ) was the founder and keyboardist of the ska band The Specials Coventry.

In 1979, he founded the record label 2 Tone Records, which significantly contributed to the publication of the Specials, Madness, The Selecter and The Beat for ska revival of the early 80s.

He committed today against racism and wrote among other things the song Free Nelson Mandela for the release of the leader of the South African ANC Nelson Mandela. He organized the festival in 1986 and 1988, the Freedom Beat Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium.
