Jerusalem Cross (Prussia)

The Jerusalem Cross was instituted on October 31, 1898 by Kaiser Wilhelm II and was awarded to all persons of his entourage who accompanied him on the trip to Palestine and took part in the inauguration of the German Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem.

The religious character is crafted in sterling silver crutch cross with four red enameled cross arms. Between each arm of the cross is another scaled crutch cross is affixed (ie, five times the Jerusalem cross). In the medallion crowned with the imperial crown initials W II IR ( Wilhelm II Imperator Rex ). Verso in Roman letters in center for the foundation date a large X, about XXXI, MD left, right and below CCC II C.

The award was worn on a vermilion red ribbon on the left chest.
