Jerzy Topolski

Jerzy Topolski ( born September 20, 1928 in Poznan, † December 21, 1998 ) was a Polish historian.

Life and work

Topolski studied from 1946 to 1950 History at the Poznan University, received his doctorate in 1951 and became Professor in 1961 ibid. In 1971 he became a member, correspondent, and in 1976 a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences ( PAN).

From 1981 to 1987 he was director of the History Institute at the University of Poznan, but also lectured at universities in Belgium, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Canada and the United States. His focus was on the history of Polish and modern European history and historical methodology. He has published about 30 books and several hundred journal articles.
