Jesenice (Rakovník District)

Jesenice ( German Jechnitz ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located 19 km west of Rakovníka and belongs to Okres Rakovník.

Geography

Jesenice is located on a hill on the left side of the creek Rakovnický Potok ( Mühlbach ) in Rakonitzer Bergland. The city is located in the Natural Park Jesenicko. To the north rises the brook Jesenice. In the southwest lies the pond Velky rybnik, east to the Horni Fikac and Dolni Fikac two large ponds. To the north rises the Spálený vrch ( 499 m ) in the north- east, the Vlčí hora ( 489 m) and the Tobiášův vrch (507 m ) east of the Lović (519 m) ​​, Kamenný vrch ( 529 m) and Maliník (532 m). By Jesenice lead the state road I/27 of Žatec to Pilsen and the railway line Rakovník Bečov.

Neighboring towns are Petrohrad, Bílenec and Chotěšov in the north, Bedlno in the northeast, Oráčov and Kosobody in the east, Plaveč the southeast, Drahouš and Tlestky in the south, Ostrovec and Velečín the southwest, Krty and Blatno in the west and Nouze and Stebno in the northwest.

History

The first written mention was made in 1321 as the seat of Vladiken Bořita of Jesenice. Since 1350 a parish church is detectable. Jesenice was first referred to as the market in 1352. The location at the crossroads of two important trade routes, the climb from Prague to Cheb Eger and Bavarian trail of Saaz to Pilsen, promoted the development of handicrafts and trade. 1360 acquired Jenec Janovice to Petersburg the goods. On December 31, 1409, he gave the city the freedom and brought him to the town. 1418 united the lords of Janovice the Jesenicer goods with the castle rule Petersburg. During the Hussite Wars Jesenice was twice invaded and sacked by the imperial standing on side of Pilsen. After the abolition of patrimonial Jechnitz was in 1848 as the seat of a district court, the district included 43 villages and 1850 part of the district Podersam. 1850 lived 986 people in Jechnitz. 1890, the city had 1408 inhabitants, of whom 50 were Czechs. 1897 was the railroad line of the local railway Rakonitz - Petschau - Buchau in operation. In 1904 next to the church, a new school building in Art Nouveau style. At the beginning of the 20th century the population was 95% Germans. 1921 was a Czech minority school. In 1930 Jechnitz had 1542 inhabitants. After the Munich Agreement in 1938 was the annexation to the German Reich as part of the district Podersam. 1939 people lived in 1508 in the city. After the Second World War Jesenice returned to the rebuilt Czechoslovakia in 1948 and lost its city rights. The German population was expelled. In 1947 the incorporation of Kosobody and Sosen. In 1950, the municipality of Jesenice had 1130 inhabitants. After the dissolution of Okres Podbořany Jesenice 1961 was assigned to the Okres Rakovník. 1975 Chotěšov was incorporated ( with Bedlno ) and 1980 Podbořánky. Since March 11, 2008 Jesenice is a town again.
