Jesper Grønkjær

Jesper Grønkjær [ jespɒ ɡʁɶnkɛ ː ˀ ɔ̯ ] ( born August 12, 1977 in Nuuk, Greenland ) is a Danish former football player.

Club career

Grønkjær played in Denmark for Aalborg BK. From 1998 to 2000 he played in the Dutch Eredivisie for Ajax Amsterdam. In 2000 he moved to the Premier League for Chelsea 2004 League rivals Birmingham City and from there División for Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Primera. In the season 2005/ 06 Grønkjær played for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga 1. His current contract until 2008 he ended prematurely after a year and played at FC Copenhagen.

On 26 May 2011, he finished his career as a professional football player.

National

With the Danish national football team, he participated in the European Football Championship in 2000 in the Netherlands and Belgium, where one was eliminated in the group stage. Two years later he was also at the Football World Cup 2002 in South Korea and Japan, while, in the one received first place in front of Senegal, Uruguay and France in the group and reached the second round. Also at the European Football Championships in Portugal in 2004, he participated with the Danish selection and reached the quarter-finals.

Six years later, he took part in the Denmark World Cup 2010 in South Africa, where one was eliminated in the first round. After the retirement he announced his retirement from international football.

He denied since his debut on 27 March 1999 in the 1-2 defeat against Italy 80 matches in which five goals reach him.
