Jesús Garay

Jesús Garay Vecino ( born September 10, 1930 in Bilbao, † February 10, 1995 ) was a Spanish footballer.

Club career

In youth played Garay, who was born in Bilbao, northern Spain, first with a club in Santutxu (1945-1946), then at a club from Begoña ( 1946-1949 ). 1949, the year before the first world championship after the Second World War, Garay was committed by the northern Spanish Club SD Erandio Club. After this one year in the Basque Country it was for him to continue to Athletic Bilbao, his wedding one of the showpiece club of Spain. There Garay remained ten years until 1960. In a team to Telmo Zarraonaindía called Zarra Gaínza Agustín, José Luis Iriondo Panizo and Rafael Garay came in La Liga to 236 games ( 7 goals).

Then he was bound for a transfer fee of 5.5 million pesetas from FC Barcelona. Athletic took advantage of the transfer proceeds to finance the construction of the North Stand at the San Mames, which is also called since then popularly known as " Tribuna Garay ". In the Star team from Catalonia he remained until 1965, when he moved to FC Málaga. There, ended Garay also in 1966 his career.

National team career

Jesús Garay ran on in his career 29 times for Spain. In his international game time 1953-1962 5-1 against the Netherlands at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid in 1957, he scored his only goal. With the Spanish national football team Garay took part in Chile at the FIFA World Cup 1962. There, however, the Spanish team was eliminated in the preliminary round.
