Jesús Moncada

Jesús Moncada i Estruga ( born December 1, 1941 in Mequinenza, Aragon, † 13 June 2005 in Barcelona) was a Spanish Catalan writer.

Moncada came from the Catalan-speaking part of Aragon. After graduation, he worked as a teacher, and he later moved to Barcelona, as his home town had to give way to a dam project on the Ebro in the 1970s. His prose work Mequinenza transformed into a literary myth. In Barcelona, he worked as a painter.

Moncada's most famous work is the book " The sinking city " ( " Cami de sirga " = towpath ), which was translated into 15 languages. In this book he describes life in his hometown Mequinenza and the sinking of the same. It is considered one of the most important works in Catalan language in recent decades.

In German appeared alongside " The sinking city " only " La galeria de les estàtues ( German: The Gallery of Statues ) ".
