Jetex engine

The Jetex engine is a rocket engine for model aircraft, which is mainly used in free-flight area. The engine was developed in 1947 and was available from 1953 in Wilmot and Mansour Company in Southampton. In addition, this company also kits for Jetex engines were available. In Germany, the micro- engines were marketed in the 1960s by Graupner.

Operation

The Jetex engine consists of an aluminum casing, in which the fuel is stored in the form of solid tablets. However, the engine has a burn time of up to 10 seconds, only a relatively small static thrust. Vertical takeoffs, as they are known from conventional rockets at best with very light models, are possible. You could see the engines also very good solo, ie let fly without a model.

Jetex engines today

Since the late 1990s replicas of the Jetex engines as well as some kits are available again. Thanks to modern micro - RC components, the classic kits are now offering the option to convert the former Free Flight on RC. In Germany, however, these motors have no BAM approval and therefore may not be sold or used.
