Jewel Box (star cluster)

NGC 4755, also known as jewelry box ( by John Herschel in 1830 so named) or κ - Crucis Cluster ( Kappa Crucis heap ), is an open star cluster in the constellation of the Southern Cross and one of the most prominent clusters of Südsternhimmels.

NGC 4755 has a diameter of 10 ', an apparent magnitude of 4.2 mag and is about 7,000 light-years away from Earth. The stars of the cluster have different masses of about one half to 20 times the Sun's mass, but all have the same chemical composition and date back about 16 million years ago from the same gas and dust cloud.
