Jewish Agency for Israel

The Jewish Agency for Israel (Hebrew הסוכנות היהודית לארץ ישראל, Ha - Ha - Yehudit Sochnut L' Erets Jisra'el ) is now the official immigration organization of the State of Israel.

History

Officially, the Jewish Agency was established on 11 August 1929 on the 16th Zionist Congress. She was the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine provided representation of the Jews and served the British Mandate as a contact. But they had the authority to negotiate with the mandatary. The Jewish Agency, however, was also responsible for the internal affairs of the Jews living in Palestine, the Yishuv:

Presence

Since the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel, the Jewish Agency is responsible for immigration in the first place. This means that they in the world motivates Jews to immigrate to Israel. The Jewish Agency today describes its functions as follows:

  • The rescue of Jews in distress
  • Enabling the aliyah ( immigration) and absorption (integration, Hebrew Kelita ) of olim ( immigrants)
  • The offer of the Jewish Zionist Education
  • Building a global Jewish community

Jewish Agency - International

In addition to the comprehensive programs offered by the Jewish Agency in Israel, it is represented in over 80 countries. About 450 shlichim (Hebrew: emissaries ) are distributed on five continents. The headquarters of the Jewish Agency is located in Jerusalem. The Jewish Agency is funded by donations.

In the Land of Israel, the Jewish Agency has several reception centers, where immigrants can find accommodation for a limited time. At the local level, there are numerous organizations that offer various social support and educational programs for immigrants.

In 1993, the Jewish Agency has launched the project " aliyah in 2000 " to life. It includes about 200 aliyah and absorption programs. " Aliyah 2000 " endeavors, even before the arrival of Oleh ( immigrant ) in Israel to organize living and working space.
