Jewish Community Centre of Krakow

The Jewish Community Centre in Krakow ( Krakow Jewish Community Center JCC) was created in 2008 through the support of Prince Charles, is located in Krakow's Kazimierz district Miodowa Street and is next to the temple synagogue.

Activity

The main goal of the center is to support the Jewish community in Krakow. The JCC sees itself as a meeting place for people of Jewish descent. But also for people who are interested in Jewish culture, religion and tradition, the door of the JCC in Krakow is open. Every day various workshops, courses and language courses take place. In addition, exhibitions, openings, festivals, film screenings, book presentations and lectures are held on the topics of Judaism, Hasidism, and Halakha principles of religion. It also serves as a meeting place for the Sabbath and kosher food. At the Jewish Community Center and Jewish festivals are celebrated. The center also houses a Senior Club, the Krakow's Jewish student club and a small nursery. In the basement is the Remuh library, which was founded by the Jewish Association " Czulent " in June 2005. The library of books collection numbers 2000 volumes, is the only public Jewish library in Poland. There is Israeli literature, the Torah and the Talmud, memories, albums, textbooks and dictionaries to find. In the library books are also available which are dedicated to the war theme, the Holocaust, anti-Semitism and the Polish- Jewish dialogue. There are also books from the field of psychology, philosophy, cookbooks and children's books.

History

On 12 June 2002 Prince Charles came to visit to Krakow. Particularly enthusiastic was the Prince of the Kraków's Kazimierz district. On 13 June 2002, he then learned during a meeting with the representatives of the Jewish community that the church next to the synagogue needed a place where people can meet. The prince promised to support the faith community. A few weeks later, representatives of the World Jewish Relief to Krakow, to discuss various investment opportunities. The Joint Distribution Committee support this initiative as well.

It took some time until the building permit for the community center was present, but the inauguration ceremony was held on 14 November 2006 will be held in the Tempel Synagogue. The ceremony Nigel Layton took as chairman of the World Jewish Relief, Yossi Erez as chairman of the American Joint Distribution Committee, Piotr Kadlčík as chairman of the Federation of Jewish faith communities of Poland, Tadeusz Jakubowicz as chairman of the Jewish Community in Krakow, Edgar Gluck as Chief Rabbi of Galicia and Boaz Pash as chief rabbi in part in Krakow. 2008, the construction was completed, so that on 28 April 2008 took place the opening ceremony. At this ceremony also attended Prince Charles and his wife Camilla. The building has an area of ​​about 800 square meters. It is not only Jewish organizations and the Jewish community to serve, but also tourists and all who live in Krakow. In the building are, inter alia, to Offices, conference rooms and common areas. In the common spaces both language courses and sports activities take place. Often those spaces also serve as a meeting place for the Sabbath and kosher food.
