Jewish Military Union

The Jewish Military Union ( pl. Żydowski Związek Wojskowy, short ZZW ) was a resistance group in the Warsaw ghetto. It was founded in November 1939.

The ZZW consisted mainly of right-wing Zionists and a group of former members of the Polish Army, who had already fought in September 1939 against the Germans. The ZZW was organized independently of the politically left-wing Jewish Fighting Organization ( ŻOB ). The number of members is estimated at 200 to 250, which were much better armed to the Polish underground due to comparatively good contacts, than about the fighters of ŻOB. When the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, they fought with the ŻOB against the German occupiers. After most of the members had been killed, the survivors fled in early May 1943, the ghetto.

In recent years, an Israeli- Polish research team ( Dariusz Libionka and Laurence Weinbaum ) the veracity of the memories and some statements about Jewish Military Association of Henryk Iwański, Kalman Mendelson, Tadeusz Bednarczyk, Jack Eisner, David J. Landau, Maurice Shainberg, Joseph Greenblatt and other persons declared to be questionable. Also throwing the two historians, the question of whether Dawid Moryc apple tree was not a fictional character and the " contact ring ", the most prominent relic of the ZZW (which is on display at Yad Vashem ), is not a fake. Thus, the two literature on the accuracy of the rebellion, as they mainly was coined by Marian Apfelbaum, Maciej Kledzik and Moshe Arens, generally in question.
