Jhelum
Jehlam ( Punjabi: Shahmukhi: جہلم, Gurmukhi: ਜੇਹਲਮ, Jehalam; Jhelum English ) is a city in the north of Pakistan's Punjab province with 293,000 inhabitants ( 1998). It is the capital of the district of Jhelum. Jhelum lies on the eponymous river; on the opposite bank lies the small town of Sarai Alamgir with a known military school.
The city was founded by Alexander the Great under the name Alexandria Bucephalus, after his horse Bucephalus had not survived the Battle of the Hydaspes here.
