Jigalong Community, Western Australia

Jigalong is a municipality in the Australian state of Western Australia in the Pilbara region, with around 300 inhabitants. The town is located approximately 165 kilometers east of Newman in the western part of the Little Sandy Desert.

History

Jigalong was founded in 1907 as a residence for persons employed in the establishment of the State Barrier Fence of Western Australia workers. After temporary use as camel breeding station, the area was made ​​in 1947 the Apostolic Church for the establishment of a mission with an Aboriginal community available. After the restitution to the Australian Government in 1969, the area of the village has been overwritten the original inhabitants.
