Jill Abramson

Jill Ellen Abramson ( born March 19, 1954 in New York) is an American journalist and since September 2011 the editor of the New York Times. She is the first woman in that position.

Life and career

Abramson was educated at Harvard University History and Literature and completed this study in 1976 with a bachelor's degree. Already during her studies she began working as an editor for the Harvard Independent, and then worked from 1973 to 1976 for Time Magazine. After studying Abramson worked for almost ten years as a reporter for the American Lawyer. In 1986 she became editor of the Legal Times. In 1988, she joined the Wall Street Journal, where he was a correspondent in Washington, DC In 1997 it became the capital correspondent for the New York Times and also headed the Washington office of the newspaper. Since September 2011 she has been editor in chief of the sheet. She taught journalism at Yale University and Princeton University.

Abramson is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. She lives with her husband in New York, the couple has two adult children.
