Jim Craig (Scottish footballer)

Philip James "Jim" Craig ( born May 7, 1943 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish footballer and one of the Lisbon Lions.

As one of the most underrated defender of his time Craig signed in January 1965 signed a contract with Celtic after he had played as an amateur for Glasgow University just two years earlier.

Much to the consternation of the Celtic fans he pushed Willie O'Neill and Ian Young from the position of right-back. In the eyes of Jock Stein Craig was a natural, despite the defensive duties his colleagues could assist in the attack. Craig and Tommy Gemmell stood in stone for a new way of playing the offensive full-back.

In the 1960s, it was not widespread, thinking even during career in professional football about life after this. Jim Craig was in this respect different, he was able to study with the support of Celtic during his football career dentistry and work so after the end of his career as a dentist.

During his time at Celtic Park Jim Craig amassed 17 titles, including winning the European Champions' Cup in 1967. In 231 games for Celtic scored six goals Craig. He was once a member of the Scottish national team.
