Jim Galloway

Braidie James "Jim" Galloway ( born July 28, 1936 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland ) is a derived from the UK, Canadian musician (alto, soprano, tenor and baritone saxophone and clarinet) of mainstream jazz.

Life and work

Galloway played during his graphic studies at the Glasgow School of Art as a clarinetist Traditional Jazz. He was also a member of the Scottish All Stars. Then he acquired the old and the other saxophones and founded in 1961 with the Jazz Makers own band. In 1964 he emigrated to Canada and joined in the Toronto Metro Stompers, which he headed from 1968. With this band of saxophonist toured in the U.S. and in Europe.

He also played in recordings and concerts with musicians like Vic Dickenson, Buddy Tate, Claude Williams, Wild Bill Davison, Ralph Sutton, Allan Vache, Junior Mance, Ed Polcer, Howard Alden, Jay McShann, Dick Wellstood (1976 Three's Company ), type Hodes (Jim Galloway & Art Hodes ) or Buck Clayton. Since the 1970s, he visited with The World's Greatest Jazz Band and other bands All Star Europe several times and also appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival on. Since 1977, he performed for 30 weeks guest performances with various local groups in Vienna Jazzland. In 1978 he founded the Wee Big Band. Between 1981 and 1987 he was moderator of the weekly radio show " Toronto Alive ". In 1985 he produced for the Edinburgh Festival jointly written with his wife, bassist Rosemary Galloway composition Hot And Sweet, which he performed with his own band and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Since 1987, he directed until 2009, the Toronto Jazz Festival.

Prizes and awards

His album Walking On Air was nominated for the 1980 Juno Award for Best Jazz Album of Canada. He was and Letters awarded the French Ordre des Arts as Chevallier 2002.
