Jim Gerlach

James "Jim" Gerlach ( * February 25, 1955 in Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Since 2003 he represents the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jim Gerlach attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, where he studied law, among others, until 1980. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1991 and 1994 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania; 1995 to 2002 he was a member of the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 2002, Gerlach was in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeds Tim Holden took on 3 January 2003, who moved into the 17th district. After the previous four elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. In this time were, among others, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan. Gerlach is a member of the Committee on Ways and Means, and in two of its subcommittees. He is also a six Congressional caucuses, including the International Conservation Caucus. In January 2014 he announced that he would not compete in the election again in 2014 and retire from politics, which is why his mandate will end on January 3, 2015.
