Jim Godbolt

Jim Godbolt ( born October 5, 1922 in Wandsworth, South London; † 9 January 2013) was a British jazz writer and promoter.

Life and work

Godbolt made ​​during the Second World War from the military service in the Royal Navy on trawlers in the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. After the war he worked as a concert promoter, manager of British jazz musicians such as George Webb 's Dixie Landers, George Melly and Mick Mulligan, but also bands like The Swinging Blue Jeans, film consultant, broadcaster and author of liner notes. He also wrote for a number of jazz magazines, such as jazz Illustrated ( 1950-51 ), 100 Club News ( 1979-84 ). From 1980 to 2006 he was a founding editor of Jazz at Ronnie Scott's magazine, the house organ of the London jazz club Ronnie Scott 's Jazz Club. He was co-author of the two-volume History of Jazz in Britain (1984 and 1986). Godbolts last book, Ronnie Scott 's Jazz Farrago (2007), was a collection of his lyrics for the Ronnie Scott's - house sheet.
