Jim Mattox

James Albon "Jim" Mattox ( born August 29, 1943 in Dallas, Texas, † November 20, 2008 in Dripping Springs, Texas ) was an American politician. Between 1977 and 1983 he represented the state of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jim Mattox attended until 1961, the Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and then studied until 1965 at Baylor University in Waco. After a subsequent law degree from Southern Methodist University and his 1968 was admitted as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. In the years 1968 to 1970 he was deputy district attorney in Dallas County. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1973 and 1977 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Texas. In the years 1984, 1988 and 1992 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions relevant.

In the congressional elections of 1976, Mattox was in the fifth electoral district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Alan Steelman on 3 January 1977. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1983 three legislative periods. In 1982 he gave up another candidacy. In 1983 he was indicted on corruption investigations, but acquitted after a long process.

Between 1983 and 1991, officiated as Mattox Attorney General of Texas. In 1990 he ran unsuccessfully for the governorship. Four years later he failed in his attempt to win his party's nomination for election to the U.S. Senate; In 1998, he competed unsuccessfully as the return in the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. He died on November 20, 2008 in Dripping Springs.
