Jim O'Neill (economist)

Terence James "Jim" O'Neill ( born March 17, 1957 in Manchester, England ) is an economist and chief economist at Goldman Sachs

Life

Jim O'Neill was born on 17 March 1957 in Manchester. He grew up in Gatley, a suburb of Manchester. After visiting the Burnage High School, he studied economics at the University of Sheffield.

He's since childhood, an avid fan of Manchester United. He was therefore 2004-2005 Board member of Manchester United to Malcolm Glazer 2005, the majority took over the club. He belongs to a Red Knights group of wealthy fans above. This group planned in 2010 to take over the club by Malcolm Glazer.

Career

He became known through the publication of a paper in November 2001, in which he predicted the strong economic growth in Brazil, Russia, India and the People's Republic of China. He used the acronym BRIC, which stands for the initials of the four countries. The term later became known worldwide and is often used after the four states could have a strong economic growth.

In December 2005, he published a list of the Next Eleven, consisting of eleven states with large populations that may experience a similar economic boom as the BRIC countries. Other abbreviations as MiKT (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey) are also from him. However, these four countries are already among the Next Eleven. O'Neill has earned by his correct predictions very much money in the currency markets worldwide. He is called by many experts as one of the best economists in the field of developing and emerging countries.
