Jim Ross Lightfoot

James "Jim" Ross Lightfoot ( born September 27, 1938 in Sioux City, Iowa) is an American politician. Between 1985 and 1997 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jim Lightfoot grew up on a farm near Farragut. Until 1956 he attended Farragut High School. Between 1956 and 1965 he served initially active and then in the reserve in the U.S. Army. He then worked for several years for the company IBM. In Tulsa ( Oklahoma), he worked for a short time as a police officer. Between 1970 and 1976 Lightfoot was in Corsicana (Texas ) manager of a company that manufactured agricultural commodity. After his return to Iowa he was a radio announcer for the station KMA. In addition, he co-founded with his wife Nancy three grocery stores in southwestern Iowa.

Politically, Lightfoot joined the Republican Party. In 1984 he was in the fifth electoral district of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the exchanged in the U.S. Senate Democrats Tom Harkin on January 3, 1985. After several re- elections he could represent this district until January 3, 1993 at the Congress. After he was elected in 1992 for another two parliamentary terms as a Member of the third district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He took over from David R. Nagle of the Democratic Party on January 3, 1993. Overall, he completed between January 1985 and January 3, 1997 3 six contiguous legislatures in Congress. He has at times been chairman of a subcommittee of the Budget Committee and a member of the subcommittee that dealt with air transports. In 1996, Jim Lightfoot opted not to run again. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully in 1998 for the office of the Governor of Iowa. In December 1998, he was Vice President of Forensic Technology Inc. Since 2009 he runs his own consulting firm. With his wife, Nancy Harrison, with whom he has four children, he lives in White Oak (Texas ).
