Jimaní

Jimaní is a provincial capital of the Dominican Republic on Hispaniola with more than 5,000 inhabitants ( another 5000 in the catchment area). It lies in the southwest of the country on the border with Haiti and near the Lago Enriquillo. The Independencia province was created in 1952 by the secession of the province Baoruco.

There is an airfield, which could play an important distribution function for relief supplies after the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

History

2004, there was a devastating flood of the otherwise largely dried-up river Arroyo Blanco.
