Jimmy Bivins

Jimmy Bivins ( born December 6, 1919 in Dry Branch, Georgia, † July 4, 2012 in East Cleveland, Ohio ) was an American boxer.

Career

The counter- boxer in the light heavyweight division began in 1940 with the boxes. In the 1940s, he hit Nate Bolden, Charley Burley, Teddy Yarosz, Billy Soose, Gus Lesnevich, Joey Maxim and Anton Christoforidis and the heavyweights Tami Mauriello, Bob Pastor and Lee Savold. His clout and slave skills were rather average, his boxing techniques but almost perfect. The " Ring Magazine " led him in 1942 as the number one contender in both the light heavyweight as well as in the heavyweight division, which had never existed before.

In 1943 he suggested the overpowering light heavyweight Ezzard Charles. More victories come against him, Lloyd Marshall, Lee Q. Murray and Melio Bettina. In 1945, he defeated Archie Moore by KO in the sixth round.

After the Second World War, he could not hold its shape. With the controversial point defeat against Jersey Joe Walcott, his first after 22 victories, began his continuous descent. Against boxers like Charles Moore and then he lost several times. Bivins never got a title shot in 1955 and ended his career. In 1999, he was welcomed into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

On July 4, 2012 Jimmy Bivins died of pneumonia.
